Book Early
This cannot be overstated: book as early as possible. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to Vancouver. Hotels in the downtown core were filling up within months of the host city announcement. If you haven't booked yet, act now. Rates for July 2026 in downtown Vancouver are already 2–3× normal.
If hotels are sold out or unaffordably priced, scroll down to the alternatives section — there are good options in nearby cities and towns within commuting distance.
Downtown & West End
The most convenient location — walkable to BC Place, Gastown, the seawall, and all major transit. Expect to pay CAD $350–800+/night for a standard hotel room during the tournament.
Luxury
Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (900 W Georgia) — the landmark downtown hotel, grand heritage building, excellent location. Rosewood Hotel Georgia next door is similarly prestigious. Four Seasons Vancouver (Pacific Centre) — smaller, supremely well-run.
Mid-Range
Marriott Pinnacle Downtown, Coast Coal Harbour Hotel, and Le Soleil Hotel offer good value at the downtown core. The West End has numerous mid-range options including Sunset Inn & Suites (good kitchens, near English Bay).
Yaletown & False Creek
A 10-minute walk from BC Place and on the Canada Line. More relaxed than central downtown, with excellent restaurants and the seawall on your doorstep. The Opus Hotel is Yaletown's boutique standout. YWCA Hotel on Beatty Street (right beside BC Place) is excellent value and often overlooked.
Gastown
Vancouver's most atmospheric neighbourhood. Staying here puts you in walking distance of the best bars and restaurants, and on the Expo Line for easy BC Place access. Skwachàys Lodge is a uniquely Canadian Indigenous-art hotel and a special choice. The Victorian Hotel is a well-maintained budget-friendly heritage option.
East Vancouver
Commercial Drive, Mount Pleasant, and the Main Street corridor are primarily residential but have excellent hostels and guesthouses at lower prices. You're 2–3 SkyTrain stops from BC Place. The atmosphere here is very local and multicultural — great for fans who want to experience the real city.
North Vancouver
Across Burrard Inlet via the SeaBus. Lower Lonsdale has several hotels and a growing restaurant scene. The SeaBus crossing takes 12 minutes and runs until past midnight. North Van hotels are typically 20–30% cheaper than downtown equivalents and you're still close to everything.
Budget Options
HI Vancouver Central (Burnaby Street) and HI Vancouver Downtown (Seymour Street) are the main Hostelling International properties — well-run, social, with dorm beds from ~$50/night and private rooms from ~$120. Book months in advance for the tournament period.
Other options: Samesun Vancouver (Granville Street) has a party hostel atmosphere. Cambie Hostel in Gastown is well-located and basic.
Alternatives to Hotels
Airbnb and VRBO: Apartments give more space and kitchen access, reducing food costs. Be aware that Vancouver has strict short-term rental rules — only principal residences are legally listed. Stick to listings with many reviews.
Nearby cities: Burnaby (15 min by SkyTrain) and Surrey (30 min) have significantly cheaper accommodation. Whistler is 2 hours by bus but a stunning base if you can afford the distance. Victoria is a beautiful city a 90-minute ferry ride away — feasible as a base if you plan matches around ferry schedules.
How Far Am I From BC Place?
Here’s a quick transit guide from each neighbourhood to the stadium:
- Downtown / West End: 10–20 min walk, or one SkyTrain stop from Burrard.
- Yaletown: 10 min walk along Pacific Blvd. Best walking route to BC Place.
- Gastown: 20 min walk, or SkyTrain from Waterfront (2 stops).
- East Vancouver: 25–35 min by SkyTrain. Get off at Main Street–Science World on match days (Stadium–Chinatown is closed).
- North Vancouver: SeaBus to Waterfront + SkyTrain, approx 45 min total. Cheaper than downtown hotels though.
- Burnaby / Metrotown: 30 min by Expo Line SkyTrain. Great value hotels and tons of food options.
Price Ranges to Expect
During the World Cup, Vancouver accommodation will be significantly more expensive than usual. Book as early as possible — prices have already risen heading into 2026.
- Budget (hostel / shared room): $60–$120/night. HI Vancouver Downtown and SameSun Backpacker Lodge are solid options.
- Mid-range (private hotel room): $200–$400/night for a decent 3-star near downtown.
- Splurge: $500+ for four-star options like the Rosewood Hotel Georgia or the Fairmont Pacific Rim.
Staying Outside the City
If downtown prices are out of reach, Burnaby and New Westminster are 20–35 minutes from BC Place by SkyTrain and have much more affordable hotels. Surrey is further but accessible via the Expo Line. Avoid anything that requires a bus-only connection on match days — buses will be packed and slow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where should I stay to be close to BC Place?
The closest walkable neighbourhoods are Yaletown (10-minute walk) and Downtown/West End (15–20 minute walk). False Creek South is also very close. These will be the most expensive during the tournament. For better value with easy SkyTrain access, consider East Vancouver or Burnaby.
Is Airbnb allowed in Vancouver?
Short-term rentals in Vancouver are regulated. Hosts must be licensed and the rental must be their principal residence. This means fewer Airbnb options than comparable cities. Listings that appear on the platform should be licensed — check the listing carefully. Hotels and hostels are more straightforward for short stays.
How much do hotels cost near BC Place during the World Cup?
Expect significant price inflation during the tournament. Mid-range downtown hotels that normally cost $150–$200/night will likely run $300–$500+/night during match weeks. Budget options (hostels, East Vancouver, Burnaby) will be $80–$150. Book as early as possible — rooms are already filling up for summer 2026.
