Stadium Overview
BC Place is a retractable-roof stadium in the heart of downtown Vancouver, capacity 54,500. It hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics opening and closing ceremonies and the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final. For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it will host group stage matches and potentially knockout rounds.
The stadium sits between the False Creek waterfront and the downtown core, making it one of the most accessible major stadiums in North America. The retractable roof means matches go ahead rain or shine.
Seating & Views
BC Place has three seating tiers. Lower bowl seats are closest to the pitch and have the most atmosphere â they fill up fastest and are most expensive. Club level (200s) offers covered seating with premium food and drink options. Upper deck (500s) provides a bird's-eye view of the full pitch â good for tactical watching, and the cheaper tickets.
For group-stage matches, any seat in the lower bowl will give you an excellent view. If you're in the upper deck, bring binoculars for close-up action. The roof keeps out rain but the stadium can get loud in all seating areas â BC Place has excellent acoustics.
Gates & Entry
BC Place has gates on all sides. Gate A (north, facing Robson Street) is the primary entrance and gets crowded â arrive 60â90 minutes before kickoff if using this gate. Gate B (south, False Creek side) is less congested for fans coming from Yaletown or the seawall.
Tickets are digital â download your FIFA app ticket before arriving. Screenshot it as a backup. Security lines open 2 hours before kickoff. For high-profile matches expect airport-style screening.
Food & Drink
BC Place has concession stands throughout all levels. Expect the usual stadium fare â hot dogs, burgers, fries, and pizza â plus some Canadian options like poutine. Prices are stadium prices (expect $12â18 for a meal, $12â14 for a beer).
Outside food is generally not allowed in, but sealed water bottles (500ml or smaller) are permitted. The club level has sit-down restaurant options that require a reservation or club-level ticket.
Alcohol is served throughout the stadium. Last call is typically 15 minutes into the second half.
Bag Policy
FIFA enforces a strict clear bag policy at BC Place. Read this before match day — bags that don’t comply will be turned away at the gate with no storage option available.
What’s Allowed
- Clear bag: Maximum 12” × 6” × 12” (approx 30cm × 15cm × 30cm). Must be see-through plastic, vinyl, or PVC.
- Small clutch bag: Up to 4.5” × 6.5” (roughly phone-sized), any colour. One per person.
- Medical bags: Permitted with documentation. Notify gate staff on arrival.
What’s Not Allowed
- Backpacks of any kind (including clear ones over the size limit)
- Large purses or tote bags
- Camera bags or equipment cases
- Outside food and drink (sealed water bottles 500ml or less may be allowed — confirm with FIFA closer to the tournament)
Where to Buy a Clear Bag in Vancouver
Pick one up before match day rather than scrambling at the gate. Clear bags are available at Shoppers Drug Mart, London Drugs, SportChek, and on Amazon. Budget $10–$25 depending on size.
Tip: Pack your clear bag the night before — it takes longer than you think to edit down what you’re bringing.
Accessibility
BC Place is fully wheelchair accessible with dedicated viewing areas at multiple levels. Accessible parking is available in the adjacent lots on a first-come basis â book through the official ticketing platform. Accessible washrooms are on every level.
Companions of wheelchair users are seated adjacent. Audio description headsets and large-print programs are available on request from the accessibility desk at Gate A.
Getting There
The easiest route is SkyTrain to Stadium-Chinatown Station (Expo and Millennium lines) â the station exits directly to BC Place's north side. On match days, SkyTrain runs extended service and additional frequency. Full getting-to-BC-Place guide â
Driving is not recommended â parking is limited, expensive ($40â60 on match days), and roads around the stadium are congested for hours before and after. If you must drive, book parking in advance.
Match Day Tips
- Arrive 90 minutes early for big matches â security queues are long.
- Charge your phone before leaving â digital tickets drain batteries.
- Wear layers â the retractable roof keeps the stadium surprisingly cool even on warm days.
- Pre-drink and eat downtown â stadium food and beer prices are high.
- Plan your exit â avoid the SkyTrain crush by waiting 20â30 minutes after the final whistle or walking to a different station.
